IWU Guard, Warsaw Alum Mangas Named League Men’s Hoops Player Of The WeekAVON, Ohio – The Crossroads League Athletes of the Week were announced on Monday, recognizing the top athletes from Jan. 20-26. Sports Information Directors from the league nominate student-athletes for the award and vote on each week’s winners.
Men’s Basketball
Kyle Mangas
Indiana Wesleyan
Mangas, a Warsaw Community High School alum, scored 35 points and drilled the game-winner in an 87-85 win at No. 18 Grace for No. 2 Indiana Wesleyan and added 33 points in a 97-84 win at No. 11 Bethel. In addition to scoring 34.0 points per game, Mangas averaged 6.0 rebounds, 4.0 steals and 3.0 assists, while shooting 57.8 percent from the floor.
Women’s Basketball
Abby Buchs, Taylor
Buchs highlighted No. 5 Taylor’s wins over No. 21 Huntington and Spring Arbor with 19.5 points, 4.0 assists and 3.5 rebounds per victory, while shooting 63.6 percent. The senior guard also joined the 1,000-point club during her 20-point effort in a 68-53 Top-25 triumph over HU.

Matthew Jenkins, Marian
Jenkins posted the best high jump mark in Marian history for indoor or outdoor, winning the event at the Tom Hathaway Classic with a leap of 2.06 meters. That mark was good for the ninth-best height in the NAIA this season.

Roth won the 5,000-meters at the Indiana University Invite, crossing with a time of 14:43.38 to break Taylor’s program record and automatically qualify for NAIA Nationals.

Erin Oleksak, Marian
Oleksak repeated the honor after winning the pentathlon at the Tom Hathaway Classic. The freshman scored wins in the 60-meter hurdles and long jump, and finished second in the 800-meters and high jump en route to piling up the fifth-best pentathlon score in the NAIA this year.

Jesse Sprinkles, IWU
Sprinkles notched a new IWU program record and won the 800-meters at the Jet’s Pizza Invite with a time of 2:13.97. The senior’s time was good for the second-best time in the NAIA this year.
