John Gares Martin Sr., Warsaw, passed away at 7:20 a.m. March 9, 2017, at Mason Health and Rehabilitation Center in Warsaw at the age of 87. He was born Dec. 12, 1929, in Canton, Ohio, to Catherine Angela Boylan Martin and William Earle Martin. On July 19, 1952 in Troy, Ohio he was married to Rose Marie “Okie” Brown Martin, who passed away Oct. 27, 2010.

Larry Lee Glant, 77, Warsaw, passed away March 7, 2017, at his home. He was born March 31, 1939, in Leesburg, to Samuel and Donnabelle Ulrey Glant. He was a lifetime resident of Warsaw and graduated Leesburg High School in 1957. He was a long haul truck driver for 40 years. He took pride in purchasing his first Peterbuilt semi-truck at the age of 50 and also winning the semi-truck Show & Shine 2002 at the Kosciusko County Fair. He was an avid golfer and played in many tournaments at surrounding golf courses. He enjoyed the summer “Golf Tour” with the guys and several yearly golf trips to South Carolina. He enjoyed mowing his yard and his mother’s field and cutting wood for sale to keep himself active. He was a member of the Moose Lodge.
Diane Sittler Hattery was born Feb. 16, 1939, in rural northern Indiana to Bob and Pauline Parker Sittler. She was the valedictorian of her graduating class at Beaver Dam High School and went on to graduate with honors, majoring in both Spanish and English from Indiana University. She married her high school sweetheart, Bob Hattery, on June 18, 1961. She taught high school Spanish for many years, and even after she retired she volunteered as a tutor with low-income and marginalized students. She loved teaching. In the mid-1970s she began volunteering with Mother Teresa’s Missionaries of Charity and served in several capacities including as the treasurer for many years. She volunteered with the Missionaries of Charity in the U.S. and around the world, including in Calcutta, India and Haiti. She had a passion for improving the lives of those who were given fewer opportunities than she. She died peaceful in her home, on March 2, 2017, surrounded by family and friends who loved her, in the care of the amazing hospice nurses from Casa de La Luz and the nursing staff at La Rosa Assisted Living. She is survived by her husband of nearly 56 years, her two children Angela (married Earl Smith) and Mike; four grandchildren, Travis, Emma, Logan and Jack; a grandson-in-law, Porter; as well as her brother, Dick Sittler, his wife Linda, their three children Tammy, Michelle and Amy, their spouses and their children. SOUTH WHITLEY — Doris A. Rhoades, 89, formerly of South Whitley, died at 5:45 a.m. March 9, 2017, at Renaissance Village, where she had been a resident since July 2016. She was born Nov. 1, 1927, in Whitley County, a daughter of Harry and Jessie Stoner Jenkins. Her formative years were spent in Whitley and Kosciusko counties. She completed her education at Sidney High School. On June 3, 1944, she was united in marriage to Russell E. Rhoades Jr. They made their home in Fort Wayne, Montana, Wyoming and moved to South Whitley in 1949. Mr. Rhoades died Aug. 5, 2013.
AKRON — Renee LeeAnn Gagnon, 31, Rochester, formerly of Akron, died at 6:10 p.m. March 7, 2017, at her residence. She was born Sept. 19, 1985, in Rochester, to Terry Gagnon and Georgia Clark. She was a graduate of Tippecanoe Valley High School. She also furthered her education at International Business College, Fort Wayne, and graduated as a vet tech. She enjoyed camping, riding horses and boating. She always had a love for all animals. But most of all she was a proud mother to the love of her life, Rienn.

She was born July 31, 1946, in Huntington, to Carl Sr. and Mary Reeves Herndon. On Sept. 10, 1966, she married David F. Longanecker. He died May 9, 2014. Danny D. Gregory, Sarasota, Fla., formerly of Warsaw, passed away March 4, 2017, at Sarasota Memorial Hospital at the age of 75. He was born June 29, 1941, in South Whitley, to Preston and Dorothy Kennedy Gregory. He was married to Roberta Gregory, who survives. Danny, along with his wife, Roberta, have owned and operated Subway restaurants in Warsaw, Milford, Nappanee, Syracuse, Bremen and North Webster for the past 25 years. He has also owned several race car teams and was recently inducted into the Warsaw Speedway Hall of Fame. He was also an active supporter of Our Father’s House, Warsaw, and always wanted to give business advice to those that wanted to start their own business. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Roberta Gregory; daughter, DeeDee (husband Alex) Moseley, Venice, Fla.; sister, Judy Vickers, Fort Wayne; and two grandsons, Darren and Carter Moseley, both of Venice. He was preceded in death by his parents and his son, Darren. Visitation will be from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday at Redpath-Fruth Funeral Home, 225 Argonne Road, Warsaw. Richard C. “Dick” Bolesky, 85, Warsaw, passed away at 10:35 a.m. March 6, 2017, in Lutheran Hospital, Fort Wayne. He was born Jan. 3, 1932, in Mansfield, Ohio, to Kenneth and Mildred Hopkins Bolesky. On June 5, 1954, he was united in marriage to Nancy Smith in South Bend. She preceded him March 21, 2013. He was a 1950 graduate of John Adams High School, South Bend, and graduated Purdue University in 1954 with a Bachelor of Science in mechanical engineering. He faithfully served his country in the U.S. Marine Corps as a commissioned second lieutenant from 1954 and was released from active duty as first lieutenant in 1956.

AKRON — Micheal L. Wise, 67, rural Akron, died at 1:30 a.m. March 6, 2017, at Autumn Ridge Rehabilitation Center, Wabash, after being in failing health for five years. He was born Jan. 26, 1950, in Warsaw, to Lonus and Virginia Currie Wise. On Nov. 22, 2003, in Akron, he married Annette Hartman; she survives. He had been employed by Tippecanoe Valley School Corp. since 1978 as a bus driver and custodian. He graduated from Akron High School in 1968. He then attended Manchester College and Purdue University. While at Purdue he sang in the Purdue Glee Club.
