Editor, Times-Union:I find it alarming that with all that occurred in Baltimore this past week, including rioting, looting, arson, curfews and injury to the police, that a major point of controversy was the word “thugs” uttered by the mayor of the city.
- Child ID - Supports Menards - Attract Business - Angels Child ID Editor, Times-Union: I am writing about an article "Teen Still Missing" on Page 3A of the Dec.14 Times-Union. The final comment, "The sheriff's department is treating her as a runaway case.Since she is not in danger, the situation does not qualify for Amber Alert."The sentiment that the Warsaw Breakfast Optimist Club has been attempting to communicate through our SafeAssured child identification system is that Missing Child posters can be issued even when a missing child does not meet the requirements for Amber Alert. This girl is missing, and a poster developed by the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children could be circulated to expedite finding her.
Editor, Times-Union:Regardless of what our culture believes and dictates to the masses, what was true when I was a kid, some 65 years ago, is still true today.
Editor, Times-Union:I have read so many great letters recently.

Editor, Times-Union:The founder of the Salvation Army, William Booth, once said, “My best men are women.” No doubt he was referring to someone like Mazie Alexander who has been driven for more than 45 years to make a difference in Kosciusko County.

- Religious Laws - Doing Nothing - Thanks To REMC Religious Laws Editor, Times-Union: Can we as religious people, whatever your religion is, who believe in God and God's laws, accept these laws that the nine Supreme Court justices have handed down in the last 50 years when they have blasphemed God's name and God's holy laws? 1.Prayer in schools was abolished or banned by the Supreme Court justices.NOTE: Article1 under the amendments to the Constitution; Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech or of the press.
Editor, Times-Union:There is a restraint law for the entire state of Indiana. It basically states your dog must remain on your property.
- Gun Lawsuit - Potpourri Gun Lawsuit Editor, Times-Union: On the front page of the June 8 paper, we find that the Mayor of Philadelphia is going to "come down" on gun manufacturers. My first suspicion is that the mayor is, perhaps, motivated by politics or is very uninformed about firearms. A gun, either long or handgun, will do absolutely NOTHING at all on its own except rust and many of today's guns won't even do that.Gun makers and gun dealers, generally speaking, would not sell a gun to a known criminal.I rather doubt that most criminals would try to buy a gun from a dealer.Guns will always be available to criminals, regardless of laws or the lack thereof.
Editor, Times-Union:I would like to thank the voters of Kosciusko County in advance for taking the time out of their busy schedules to cast their vote for Bob Conley, Kosciusko County commissioner, in 2014.

Editor, Times-Union: I understand the concept behind satirical “cartoons” that appear daily on the Opinion page, but I am wondering who, if anyone, thinks the one last night was so funny or meaningful that it should have been included. There is nothing funny whatsoever about pedophilia, either in the church or surrounding athletic department personnel. It is an extremely disturbing topic that needs attention but certainly not parody.
Editor, Times-Union:I can't believe the disrespect once again of you, Mr. Slone and the Times-Union.
Editor, Times-Union:I fully agree with Ms. Tam Vogel in her editorial Nov. 22.
Editor, Times-Union:To the individual or individuals responsible for the theft of a grey and red Vento Zip GT5 Scooter with a Black Rear Bpx on May 28. 2013, on CR 100 East, near CR 300 North, Warsaw: whether the vehicle is still in Kosciusko County or not, it is not your scooter and I hope you are enjoying riding it.

For any otherwise rational adult, just the thought of spending a day with 1,300 middle school students can be enough to bring on the cold sweats. But last Wednesday quite a few adults, professionals, business people and educators did just that, and were pleasantly surprised. The kids were nice.Polite, even.Well-mannered, attentive, interested and respectful. In a word, great. I was one of those people at the Middle School Career Fair, sponsored by the Warsaw/Kosciusko County Chamber of Commerce.Career fairs are usually aimed at high school students, and this was the first one to target middle-schoolers.I manned the Times-Union booth to talk to kids about being a reporter. The eighth-graders from every middle school in the county were bused in intervals to the Home and Family Arts Building at the Kosciusko County Fairgrounds. From my vantage point right beside the door, I was able both to observe and to talk to the students.
Springtime always brings a flurry of environmental activity to the Depot.
