Editor, Times-Union:The Indiana drivers' manual states "Drivers must use headlights between sunset and sunrise as well as at any other time in which visibility is less than 500 feet" (approximately 1/10 of a mile or 1 football field). The reason for using headlights in daylight is not for you to see better, but for others to see you better. You should turn on your headlights when:Driving away from the setting or rising sun. It's dusk or dawn - visibility is low and the angle of light makes it hard to distinguish shapes. There's foggy conditions (use your low beams).Driving in rain, as it camouflages shapes and decreases the ability of other drivers to see you.Snowing - in darkened or stormy conditions, lights increase your visibility to help other drivers see you - especially in blowing snow. So, if someone flashes their lights at you, they're just saying, "I can't see you well," and you should turn your headlights on - it makes it safer for everyone.Bob HickmanMilford, via e-mail

- School Policy - Cardinal Thanks - Witch Hunts School Policy Editor, Times-Union: First of all, I am assuming that the article in the paper was an accurate representation of what Mr.Chamberlain stated.I was not at the meeting, but feel that this is warranted.Do you have something better to do with your time, Mr.Chamberlain? Are you a member of the school board to help or just to get what you want? I am appalled by the reference he made about "eager to move forward on the recommendations as outlined by the superintendent....Failure to move forward is detrimental to the continued vitality of the school corporation and the community.

- Preaching - Red Light Running - Leadership Seminar Preaching Editor, Times-Union: Preacher converted by his own preaching? Well, not quite, but close. It really happened like this: The Rev.Robert Boggs attended the Billy Sunday Festival Friday at Winona Lake dressed as Billy Sunday, complete with his hair parted in the middle.Part of the program was for these B.Sunday "look-alikes" to do brief dramatic sermons at the Billy Sunday pulpit as Billy might have preached it long ago.
Editor, Times-Union: So many things are happening in our world so fast that for us who consider ourselves “caring and patriotic,” it’s a shock to think how long it will take to “undo” wrong decisions no matter how sorry we are that we kept quiet and “just let them happen.”

Editor, Times-Union: When they arrive they are cute little peepers like we see at Easter, about 1-1/2 inches in diameter, with malice toward no one. Each chick occupies approximately 1.75 square inches and the house in which they are going to live is 60 feet wide and 600 feet long. That is the equivalent of the 100-yard dash twice over from end to end.
