Letters To The Editor

Editor, Times-Union:Hey, you guys, I wrote you last year telling you how to join the fair association here in Kosciusko County.

- Remember Who You Are - Where Were The Refs? - Baseballers Say Thanks Remember Who You Are Editor, Times-Union: Your letter from Al Smith struck me not so much as a tale of tragedy and woe, but rather as a sad-sack litany of self-pitying bitterness and resentment. Mr.Smith evidently didn't learn much from the military - or has forgotten what he'd learned - about being a man and rolling with the punches that life has a habit of landing in painful places at times.

Editor, Times-Union:I support Jack Wilhite and Cindy Dobbins for city council.

- United We Stand... - Belief - Jesus Banned - Holiday Vs.Christmas United We Stand... Editor, Times-Union: It was Madalyn Murray O'Hare who said: "Separation of church and state."Yet the word separation is not in the First Amendment or the 14th Amendment of the Constitution. After reading 68 pages of the Supreme Court documents of Murray's Case, there are some interesting decisions made by the Supreme Court. The Supreme Court throughout the case used the word neutrality or neutral.Even the court states: "It must be neutral and that the church and state be neutral."Throughout the whole legal document the court used the word neutral.

Editor, Times-Union: I’d like to commend David Kolbe for having the courage to speak out on the topic of marijuana and tell some truths and give some information that many of us who agree have not.

Editor, Times-Union: Since I am also a next door neighbor, I have read with interest the letters regarding the massive piles of branches on the Ranch Road property. I personally think that it is beyond the duty of the city to pick up that much wood because it was the homeowner’s decision to cut down all the trees in her yard.

- Accidents - Kinky Roads - Theft Accidents Editor, Times-Union: I would like to thank you for printing my story.I was hoping for some input from the public and I had some success which was comforting and insightful. We need to teach our children how to deal with situations like the one my son was in.Accidents happen everyday and statistics show about 30 percent or so are hit-and- run. Deadlyroads.com will show you how many people have suffered from hit-and-run tragedies.Tom's accident is listed on the site through the article printed in this paper, with a caption about passengers leaving the scene. Sounds pretty close to a hit-and-run incident, but not by our state laws. There needs to be changes or modifying done to these laws to prevent this from happening again.

Editor, Times-Union:My son is in Iraq as we speak. Lord-willing, he will be home soon.

Editor, Times-Union:Drivers License. Where do people get them? Out of cracker jack boxes. Foggy, rainy days and dusk and dawn, don’t they know how to use their lights. You can’t be seen.

Editor, Times-Union: I attended the public forum this past Sunday on Right to Work for the state of Indiana. I walked in thinking that maybe I could see some views other than my own on Right to Work. Boy, was I right!

- Y2K - Economic Development - Chili Auction - Thanks To A Great Young Man Y2K Editor, Times-Union: Quite a number of people obviously have the jitters over what may happen when the clock strikes midnight on Dec.31, 1999.They think that anyone who is not afraid is just plain ignorant; that we don't know enough of the facts facing us in this computer age to be scared. They think we're trying the trick of hiding our heads in the proverbial sand, denying all the problems that we face and those we may face. But fear and worry reduce our power to solve problems! That attitude hinders rather than helping.

Editor, Times-Union:Being unemployed for nearly two months now, I have lots of time to read the Times-Union front to back.

- Love And Marriage - Grass Love And Marriage Editor, Times-Union: While I applaud Brenda Ganshorn for exercising her privilege and right to use the media to express her opinions, I have to admit I found myself laughing at the letter itself. The idea of marriage between man and woman is a religious mandate, and if I remember correctly, we still have a little something called "separation of church and state" (albeit a loose one). To say that gay marriage would lead to things like legalized polygamy and bestiality is absurd.

Editor, Times-Union:Despite the fact that the recent increase in property taxes was mandated by the State, I have been made to understand that 99 percent of the funds collected are put at the disposal of local government.

Editor, Times-Union:To all the members of Congress,First, I ask you to please stop this health care bill in all forms.

Editor, Times-Union:I’ve been pondering the full-page ad State Representative Kubacki took out last week to publically defile her opponent and a voter in her district over two terse letters to the editor regarding her daughter’s letter.

- Whitaker Top Choice - Supports Goshert - Gas Prices - Freedom Of Religion - Goshert For Sheriff - Elect Slone Whitaker Top Choice Editor, Times-Union: I have worked for three different sheriffs in my career with the department and those three have all come from within the ranks of the department. While I will not dispute the fact officers whom serve or have served with other law enforcement agencies are well-trained members of the law enforcement community, this does not mean they are qualified to be sheriff.

Editor, Times-Union:Veterans Day is a time to thank those who served our country.

- Great God - Story Of The Weeds - Good Basketball - Trash In The Lake Great God Editor, Times-Union: Their god says to win or kill the infidels (all of us who are not of their faith). Our God says love even them and others into His kingdom. Their god says commit suicide if necesary to get the benefits of heaven. Our God says that he has made the way for them and us to enter heaven.

Editor, Times-Union:As we center on the cross and our Savior fair,

Editor, Times-Union: Response to two fans. First to the one who disputes my facts:

Editor, Times-Union:I just read the letters from Lonnie Slone and Robert Boggs.

Editor, Times-Union:I am writing because over the last four years my neighbor has willfully let his dogs and livestock on my property.

Editor, Times-Union:I recently heard about the passing of Margaret Ann Voirol, long-time Choir Director at WCHS.

Editor, Times-Union:Wednesday  night, April 11, I watched the only debate between the Richards contesting one of Indiana’s two Senate seats. Basically, the whole affair was rather dull. In my view that was more a reflection on the Debate Commission rather than the two candidates.
