Letters To The Editor

Editor, Times-Union:For those who may not be aware and the news media has failed to report, the American Muslim Community, headed up by Mr. Hassan Abdellah, an attorney from New Jersey and a member of the dar-ul-islam Mosque, has scheduled a prayer vigil that is to take place on the West Wing of the U.S. Capital building from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday.

- Shooting Sports - Impaired Driving - Animal Laws - Tax Joke - Tax Dollars Wasted Shooting Sports Editor, Times-Union: For those of you involved with children, 4-H, DNR, IBEP, or any form of hunting …

Editor, Times-Union:First off, I am wondering why those who ride bikes in town or in the county do not have to follow the same driving rules as a person in a car or truck?

- Don't Use Drugs - Thanks To Slater Market - Libertarians - Letter In Bad Taste - Barking Dogs - Great Health Care - Animal Welfare League - Morality - Evolution/Creation - Thanks To Grace Students Don't Use Drugs Editor, Times-Union: I would like to encourage students to not use drugs. Not using drugs will make it easier to achieve goals. You'll be able to remember things better, and you'll also show some interest in activities. If you don't use drugs you'll have a better chance of having a long life.

I don't read as much as I'd like to.When I do read something, it's only for a few minutes a day and it's usually only a newspaper or a magazine article. Recently, I bought "1984" by George Orwell and "Starr's Report to Congress."I haven't finished either book yet.I need to take a weekend and finish both of them. Then I need to reread "Lord of the Flies" and maybe a Stephen King book, too. I just need to read. Reading is one of man's greatest pleasures, but we don't take enough time to do it or we don't do it at all.How can we stress the importance of reading to young people if they don't see us reading? Illiteracy is not tolerable. When someone can go through 12 years of school and not even be able to read a letter, that says something negative about our society.

Editor, Times-Union:Kudos to the editor for his Saturday News Views. I also feel that both major parties are much too divided along party lines.  What really needs to happen is for Indiana, and every other state, to demand that Washington, D.C. get out of our business.

Editor, Times-Union:Please relay a message to our Warsaw Fire Dept.

Editor, Times-Union:The other day conservative Bay Buchanan accused President Obama of having "dummied down the Supreme Court" with his selection of Justice Sotomayor and his nomination of soon-to-be Justice Kagan.

Editor, Times-Union:I've decided to share some of the experiences I've had during my 94 years.

Editor, Times-Union:Many may have noticed, over the years, the letters on a variety of subjects written by Joyce Phaneuf and published in the Times-Union.

- Freedoms - Shame Freedoms Editor, Times-Union: This is the first in what will be a series of letters dealing with basic human freedoms.I will begin with a human freedom that I have discussed previously - that of freedom of religion. And in order to conform to the Times-Union letter policy, I will have to divide this letter into several parts, the first of which will be a book list that readers of the Times-Union may find of interest. The following books, most of which are available at the Warsaw Community Public Library, were used in developing a definition of freedom of religion. 1.Historic U.S.Court Cases: 1690-1990.An Encyclopedia. 2.The Oxford Companion to the Supreme Court of the United States.

I suppose many of you are wondering what is going on at city hall with the “sign ordinance”. I really wanted to talk about the new paving and bicycle lanes on Smith Street, but evidently there is some discussion needed about the city updating its sign ordinance.

- Hypocrisy - Gun Control - Stolen Purse Hypocrisy Editor, Times-Union: "Better to be free in a society with risks than a safe slave in a dictatorship" (Charlie Reece). Thanks, Charlie.Wouldn't it be great if the media, in general, and the Washington hypocrites would hype truths such as that rather than the constant barrage of lies and hyperbole. Now, republicans and democrats are jumping on the bandwagon because they are afraid of the political backwash if they voice their consciences rather than what the latest poll portends.

Editor, Times-Union:Usually, I agree with your comments, or at least find some validity in them.

Editor, Times-Union:Everybody has an opinion about the problem of the school building project and here’s mine.

Editor, Times-Union:First off, Mr. Shirey, I would like to thank you for defending this great country of ours.

Editor, Times-Union:What is global warming? Warming is when the Earth’s temperature is heating up. The average temperature has been climbing 1.4 degrees Fahrenheit around the world sine 1880. This is happening because greenhouse gases, which consists of carbon dioxide, water vapor, nitrous oxide and methane, trap heat and light from the sun into the Earth’s atmosphere and it can’t get out.

- Center Lake - Reform Or Else - Animal Lovers - Responds To Young - Supports Obama - Animal Control Center Lake Editor, Times-Union: The Center Lake watershed has many atypical hydrologic features due to alterations that have taken place with regard to manipulation of surface water connections.Water enters Center Lake from groundwater contributions and springs. It also enters the lake from surface water contributions from Tippecanoe River and Lones Ditch (outlet from Pike Lake), Walnut Creek back-flow and through a storm sewer connection from Pike Lake.

Editor, Times-Union:My name is Michael Reiff. I'm currently in Kosciusko County Jail again, serving a portion of my 2005 conviction for non-support.

- Tax Give-Away - Accident Victim Recovering - Organ Donations - Firemen Tax Give-Away Editor, Times-Union: Open letter to Senator Lugar. Topic: The $300 and $600 give-away What the politicians did only shows us that the wealthy and big business got most of the money -Ê60 percent of the total give-away.The middle class got the 40 percent. This is like putting a single penny in a 55 gallon barrel and expecting this penny to help our economy.

Editor, Times-Union:On the subject of guns there is only one issue: the citizens’ ability to resist criminal government by the use of guerrilla warfare.

Editor, Times-Union:When I am asked to speak to students, the most often asked question is what my job entails. I would have to say it is to debate for or against legislation that will affect Hoosier families.

Editor, Times-Union:I have to give kudos to Gary Gerard for his op-ed in the Times-Union about taxes.

Editor, Times-Union:At the ripe old age of 39 there are few "firsts" left in life, but today was a "first." I named a Canadian goose today. His name is "Caddyshack," for today we are officially at war.
