Letters To The Editor

- Back To The Days - Towing Service - Indian Sculptor - Valley Baseball Back To The Days Editor, Times Union: In the March 2, 2000, issue of the Times-Union, it was announced that the Steering Committee for the Annual Back to the Days of Kosciuszko festival had disbanded. While involved in last year's festival, I became aware of the amount of time and effort it took on the part of the steering committee, (Tammy Denlinger, Joanne M.Kolbe, David Taylor and many others) to coordinate an event of this size. This festival reaches both young and old in our community with educational programs for school children, historical re-enactments, and a link to the past through Thaddeus Kosciuszko, the Polish military strategist after whom the county is named.

- Clinton Witch Hunt - Experienced Candidates - Humane - Prosecutor's Race - Sheriff's Race - Thank You Reggie White - Shock In Jonesboro Clinton Witch Hunt Editor, Times-Union: I, for one, am sick of the Clinton "witch hunt."I am sick of the way they are exposing Bill Clinton as being the only president who sets a bad example for leaders of this country.I think it's lousy of certain individuals to look upon President Clinton as though he were some kind of sex-starved stud, who will bed down anybody at the slightest provocation, when so many of our former presidents in the past have engaged in just as many peccadillos as Clinton is alleged to have committed.

Editor, Times-Union:This is in response to Kay Creamer.

- Freedoms - Teachers Freedoms Editor, Times-Union: I would like you to ask you one question. In your letter you said Vietnam had nothing to with our freedom, but I disagree with you. That war had everything to with our freedom. It was after this war that our servicemen and -women were spit on by Americans and for what. These people took an oath to defend the Constitution and obey the president.By obeying this oath they are defending our freedoms.

Eliminate Property TaxesProperty taxes are a perennial lien against private property ownership, justified by the need for revenue. Indiana uses an arbitrary "state equalized value" system which, in effect, presumes that every home was built this year or is comparable to a home that sold nearby in the recent past.

Editor, Times-Union:In the case of Hull vs. Dilley, Bay's Auto was inadvertently brought into the public eye ...

Editor, Times-Union: I want to start off by saying the school corporation did a great job with the new Madison and Leesburg Elementary school buildings. I was very impressed and honored that my children have the opportunity to attend a new school building.

Several years ago the television industry, under pressure, decided the best way to deal with the concerns certain groups had with television programming was to implement a ratings system. The U.S.government was going to implement their own ratings system if the television industry didn't, but the television industry stepped in and said they would do it themselves to avoid the interference. Now, depending on which network or Cable Channel one watches, television shows have ratings like Y7, Y14, M, PG, A, etc.And which television show gets which rating depends mostly on what an individual at the network thinks it deserves.A show that gets a Y14 (not intended for anyone under 14) on one network might get an M (for mature) on another. Certain networks add additional letters to clarify their ratings. There's V for violence, S for sexual situations, L for language and a couple others I haven't been able to decipher yet.

- Michael Moore - MasterWorks - WCDC Says Thanks - Triton Superintendent - Veterans Series - Warsaw Schools Michael Moore Editor, Times-Union: Gary Gerard used his column Saturday to rail sharply against Michael Moore and his new movie "Fahrenheit 911."Nowhere in his column did Gary state that he had seen the movie or refute any of movie's points.I have seen the movie.I found it to be very thought-provoking.I think Gary should see it too. Gary railed against Michael Moore for expressing his point of view.Isn't that exactly what Gary is doing in his column also? Moore is exercising his First Amendment right. And so is Gary. And they are both making a living doing so.

Editor, Times-Union:First of all, I am a Christian.

Editor, Times-Union:Considering all the political correctness in politics these days it's great to see Jan Brewer, governor of Arizona, make a stand regarding illegals in her state.

"Would you know my name, if I saw you in heaven? Would it be the same, if I saw you in heaven? I must be strong, and carry on, 'cause I know I don't belong, here in heaven..." - "Tears in Heaven" by Eric Clapton, Will Jennings The greatest feelings of loss are often expressed publicly in song. There are few other places where society will discuss or even mention the feelings associated with loss.Tears are just not socially correct in public except at a funeral or during a major tragic event.Even then, there are those who hold back their tears because it isn't "appropriate." When loss happens, though, there is not much a person can do but cry. And I bring this up for two reasons.

Editor, Times-Union,It amazes me that there are people in this country who are in favor of ending the principles and values on which this Republic was founded.
