Yes, Virginia

Editor, Times-Union:

In 1897 a young girl named Virginia wrote a letter to a New York paper asking if there was a Santa Claus? A reporter named Francis P. Church answered and said yes Virginia there is a Santa Claus.

Since that day in 1897 I'm sure many have read and some may have even found some truth in Mr. Church's article. I do not doubt the sincerity of Mr. Church's statement however I would like to correct his accuracy.

Yes, Virginia there really is a Jesus. He exists as certainly "as love and generosity and devotion exist, because he is love, generosity and devotion so he can impart these things to you. If your little friends say there in no Jesus, it is because they have been affected by the skepticism of a skeptical age. They do not believe except they see. But you Virginia are blessed because you believe though you see not. They think nothing can be which is not comprehensible to their little minds. The truth is without him nothing could be that is, comprehend that. For he created it all. In this great universe of ours man is a mere insect and ant, in his intellect when compared with the boundless worlds he made. Yet Virginia he loved us so much that he came to earth to die on a cross to save us from our sins.

Yes Virginia there really is a Jesus. He is King of Kings and Lord of Lords. To not believe in Jesus then you might as well believe in fairies and in Santa Claus but remember they did not die for you. No one has seen Santa Claus yet many believe. Many have seen Jesus yet few believe.

In the life of a child there can be belief for both yet reality only for one. And that one is the one who was born on Christmas Day that is Christ the Lord.
