Wyrick Shows Interest In Serving On Fire Territory Board

Posted
NORTH WEBSTER – North Webster resident Mike Wyrick approached the North Webster Town Council with interest about being on the Tippecanoe Township-North Webster Fire Protection Territory Board.

The Fire Territory was approved March 31.

The Fire Territory Board will be made up of five members. Two of the members will come from the Township Advisory Board and two will come from the Town Council.

Tuesday, Ed Clayton, from the Township Advisory Board, said the Town Council will approve the fifth member on even years for a one-year term. On odd years, the Township Advisory Board will approve the fifth person.

Wyrick said he was involved in the issue from when the township and Council were debating on whether to put the fire territory together and supported the motion after going to a township meeting. He also wrote some letters in support of starting the fire territory.

Wyrick said he knows some of the issues that are going to come up will deal with the budgeting of the fire territory and it’s going to include discussions on insurance for it. Wyrick said he has 49 years of experience in the insurance business and he may be able to provide some support in that area.

Council President Lisa Strombeck said the Council wouldn’t vote on it next week. The Council has an end-of-the-year meeting at 4:30 p.m. Dec. 28 at the annex building.

In other business, the Council:

• Approved 250 hours of overtime for North Webster police officers for 2021. Police Chief Greg Church said usually, the police department uses a lot less overtime hours, but this year the department did use about 200 hours.

• Announced the next regular meeting will be at 6 p.m. Jan. 18 at the North Webster Community Center.
