Woman Injured After Swerving To Miss DeerA woman who was injured after she swerved to miss a deer and crashed into a pole and tree instead may face drunk driving charges.

The Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Office responded to a wreck at 8:12 p.m. Tuesday at North CR 650E, 1,000 feet north of East CR 200N, Warsaw, and found Susan L. Wright, 40, of 1 EMS B37 Lane 51-11, Warsaw, trapped in her vehicle between trees.

According to the accident report, Wright was driving a gray 2004 Honda Accord north on CR 650E when she said a deer entered her driving lane. Wright told police she attempted to miss the deer and ran off the road to the right, crashing into a telephone pole owned by CenturyLink and then into a tree, becoming entrapped in the vehicle.

Washington Township Fire Department had to extricate Wright from her car, and Glenn’s wrecker service towed the vehicle, according to the report.

Wright admitted to police she had been drinking prior to the crash and refused a chemical test. She was taken by ambulance to Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne for treatment of a cut to her head and a possible broken left arm.

Estimated damage is between $5,000 and $10,000.
