The collision occurred on CR800W, just north of CR 850N.

According to a Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Office news release, deputies and emergency personnel responded Friday at 10:30 a.m. to a reported personal injury crash on CR 800W, just north of CR 850N in Kosciusko County.

Emergency personnel arrived on the scene and found a horse-drawn buggy, driven by Fannie Mae Bontrager, 58, Nappanee, and a 2019 Ford F350 utility bucket truck, driven by Christopher Hill, 43, Columbia City, involved in the collision.

Preliminary investigation determined that Hill was northbound on CR 800W and was following a dump truck. The dump truck proceeded to pass the horse-drawn buggy and Hill’s vehicle continued north, striking the rear of the horse-drawn buggy.

Bontrager was pronounced dead at the scene by the Kosciusko County Coroner’s Office as a result of her injuries suffered in the crash. The horse pulling the buggy was also deceased at the scene.

Hill was not injured.

The Ford F350 driven by Hill was registered to Media Com Corp., Auburn.
