Winona Lake Man Killed In CrashSILVER LAKE – A crash Monday night on Ind. 15 between a semi and a car left the driver of the car dead from his injuries.
According to the Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Office crash report, at 7 p.m. Monday, police responded to South Ind. 15 near West CR 1200S, Silver Lake, for a report of a semi versus car accident.
At the time of the crash, visibility was “drastically reduced,” according to KCSO Public Information Officer Sgt. Chris Francis.
A maroon 2007 Ford Fusion, driven by George Kellogg, 83, of Marilyn Avenue, Winona Lake, was traveling north on Ind. 15 and went left of center into the path of a southbound semi. The semi was driven by Taylor B. Smith, 27, of Peru, for Bellar Construction Management in Peru, according to the crash report.
Kellogg was taken to a Fort Wayne hospital for his injuries after Silver Lake Volunteer Fire Department had to extricate him from his vehicle. According to SLFD Fire Chief John Conley, it took first responders 30 minutes to extricate Kellogg.
Kellogg was pronounced dead at the hospital early Tuesday morning.
