Winona Lake Man Arrested After Not Returning To County Work ReleaseA Winona Lake man picked up a new felony charge after he allegedly walked away from his detention at the county work release center.

Charles Laustin Kreider, 31, of 1202 Wooster Road, Winona Lake, and also showing an address of 4265 S. CR 1150W, Mentone, had been a fugitive since December and was booked in the Kosciusko County Jail at 10:13 a.m. Friday. He is facing a Level 6 felony failure to return to lawful detention charge.

According to the probable cause affidavit filed Dec. 14 in Kosciusko Superior Court II, on Dec. 5 Kreider was sentenced to serve a sentence in two cases at the Kosciusko County Work Release Center, with one sentence ending Jan. 13, and the other Aug. 13.

On Dec. 5, Kreider received permission to work at a local tire store. While at work that morning, he allegedly told a coworker he was going to leave and go get his wallet.

According to the affidavit, Kreider didn’t return to work, nor did he return to the work release center.

Police had been unable to locate him until Friday.

His bond was set at $16,000.
