WINONA LAKE – A new reserve officer was sworn in during Tuesday’s Winona Lake Town Council meeting.
Town attorney Adam Turner swore in Cody Anderson as a WLPD police reserve.
The town council also acquired the northeast corner of Kings Highway and Argonne Road for a cost of $18,000. That land will be partially used for the planned roundabout at that intersection, and the remainder of it will remain as greenspace, town manager Craig Allebach said. He also hopes to remove the billboards currently placed there.
The town entered an agreement for right-of-way acquisition services at the intersection for the roundabout at a cost of $35,392 – 80% of that will be reimbursed from the Indiana Department of Transportation. That right-of-way area will go into all four corners of the intersection properties, including maybe up a little to the condominium areas on Winona Avenue, Allebach said.
Also Tuesday, the council:
• Approved Parks Department Director Holly Hummitch’s request to purchase shade sails and picnic tables for the Limitless Park. The total cost of the equipment is $10,547.49 and it will go between the Senior Center building and the playground, Allebach said.
• Approved a travel request for Allebach to attend the annual Purdue University Road School March 10-12 at the West Lafayette campus. Allebach said it’s a two-day “school” where town and city leaders and engineers come together to discuss roads, engineering, trails, etc.
• Appointed Bruce Shaffner, Dennis Daniels, Al Disbro and Alan Alderfer to the Winona Lake Redevelopment Commission; Kristie Maiers to the Park Board; and Bruce Shaffner to the Community Development Corporation.
The next Winona Lake Town Council meeting is 6 p.m. March 17 in Town Hall.
