WINONA LAKE – Winona Lake Board of Zoning Appeals approved two requests Monday regarding duplexes.
The first case was to allow Cedric Poage to continue using the single-story building at 1203 Wooster Road as a duplex.
Board President Bruce Shaffner asked if there were any material changes that are being planned. Poage said no, only to fix a broken window.
Poage confirmed the residence is currently being used as a duplex. There are six off-street parking spaces and each unit has two bedrooms, one bathroom and each unit has its own kitchen.
Board member Megan Carr asked if the request was being made because it was a transfer of ownership. Poage said it was.
The second request was for 106 13th St. from petitioners John Meyer and Courtney Waterman, who are buying the property. Waterman said the request was to allow them to rent the units when they’re not using them. Waterman said it’s a second home for them and they want to rent the units as a Airbnb.
There are four off-street parking spots for the property and, in one unit, there’s three bedrooms and two bathrooms and the other unit has four bedrooms and three bathrooms.
The board approved the request with parking for the duplex being limited to the offstreet parking spaces.
In other business, the board tabled a decision about a new building at 50 Kings Highway as petitioner Judy Ness was not present at the meeting for personal reasons.
