Winona Avenue Re-opens As Work Moves North

Posted

Winona Avenue is open to traffic, but motorists will still find railroad crossing closures further to the north in Warsaw for at least early today.

Norfolk Southern's rail gang arrived in full force Monday and on Tuesday worked to replace rail at crossings at Pope, Winona, Market, Center and Main, essentially cutting off numerous east-west routes through the city.

The rail replacement project stretches from Claypool to Milford Junction.

Center Street and possibly other crossings nearby could reopen today, but then work shifts further north, resulting in more extensive closures at East Arthur Street and Lyon Street.

Closures at several crossings on Tuesday extended for most of the day. Norfolk and Southern had been urging motorists to use U.S. 30 to cross through the city.
