AKRON – William P. Craig, 90, of 746 N. CR 1000E, Akron, died unexpectedly at 12:17 p.m. Jan. 14, 2012,  in Woodlawn Hospital, Rochester.

He was born Dec. 26, 1921, in Akron, to Oren and Grace Cook Craig.

He was an independent livestock dealer and a 1939 graduate of Beaver Dam High School. He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving in World War II. He was on the first troop carrier, The Queen Mary, to leave New York and arrive in England. Later in his life he served from 1985-87 in the Peace Corps, serving in Papua, New Guinea. He was an active member of Rochester Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1343.

Surviving are a daughter, Phyl Olinger, Rochester; a son, Jeff (and spouse Jan) Craig, Jackson, Calif.; a granddaughter, Niki Kerr; two grandsons, Blake Olinger and John (and spouse Natalie) Craig; a great-granddaughter, Kaitlyn Kerr; a great-grandson, Gabe Kerr; and a sister, Mildred “Topsy” Harrold, Akron. He was preceded in death by twin sons, Bill and Bob Craig; a sister, Susie Riley; and a brother, George Craig.

Following his wishes to be cremated, there will be no immediate services. The family will hold a scattering ceremony at a later date on his rural Akron farm.
