Whitko’s Studebaker A State FFA FinalistSOUTH WHITLEY – The Indiana FFA Association has recently named Whitko High School senior Brent Studebaker an Indiana FFA State Star Finalist for his supervised agriculture experience.
Brent is the son of Danny and Lynn Studebaker.
In his proficiency application, Brent demonstrated growth and mastery of skills he learned while working at SouthView Farms and Studebaker Farms, according to a news release from Whitko Community School Corporation.
The proficiency application requires students to keep an accurate record of income and expenses, develop cash flow statements, equity statements and more. This proficiency was then submitted to the Indiana FFA Association for review.
Studebaker was interviewed by a panel of judges before being tapped as a state finalist. Indiana FFA has over 10,000 members, and in the end select only four to be honored as a Star Finalist in the Agriculture Placement division.
Studebaker is Whitko FFA president and the District II FFA Sentinel. Last year,
Studebaker was the Indiana FFA 2020 Diversified Crop Production Proficiency winner. This year, in addition to being a state finalist for the Indiana FFA Star award, he has advanced to the state contest in both Diversified Crop Production and Diversified Ag Production.
He credits former Whitko agriculture teacher Karrin Koontz with encouraging him to pursue his proficiency and Whitko Career Academy ag teacher Matt Dice for his support throughout his project this year.
At Whitko High School, Studebaker will earn both the technical honors and academic honors diplomas.
He will attend Purdue University in the fall majoring in agriculture systems management. He will find out this summer at the State FFA Convention if he will be named Indiana FFA’s best as Star Over Indiana.
