Whitko Students Tour Mfg. FacilitiesLARWILL – Recently, the Whitko Career Academy's Welding and Precision Machining programs were given the opportunity to take facility tours of DMMG Manufacturing and Herman’s Christmasland in Pierceton.
The tours were coordinated by the WCA and DMMG Manufacturing owner/CEO Donnell Miller, according to a news release from Whitko Community Schools. The tours began in the main foyer with a welcome and presentation of the types of products produced by DMMG Manufacturing and Christmasland.
After transitioning to the manufacturing floor, Miller led a group of students to the press and stamping area to become familiar with the products produced in-house for the foundry industry. Safety and machine training were hot topics in this area. The guide then took students to the CNC plasma cutting area and discussed the use of CNC and other equipment in the facility. The next stop was in the threading area where product management and logistics were discussed. Moving on to the layout and welding departments, employee training and qualifications were discussed along with employability skills.
The next to last stop was in the lighting department where again employability skills and the willingness to learn were emphasized. The tour concluded in the Christmasland show room with a question and answer session that spurred some awesome discussion about current manufacturing needs and trends in our local and regional areas.
