Whitko School Board Holds Special Meeting, Work Session

Posted

LARWILL - Whitko School Board held a special meeting and work session to discuss approval of a claims voucher, and to hear about renovations and fund transfers, on Monday, July 13.
Samantha Coburn asked the board what the claims voucher was for, and what budget would be affected by said voucher. She stated that after doing some research, a claims voucher is “a formal document to request, authorize or record a financial transaction.”
The board approved the claims voucher.
The board also heard about renovations to the high needs special education classrooms to better meet the needs of those students. Superintendent Dr. Amy Korus showed the board all the bids, and also the approved bid from JG Bowers in Marion. Korus stated that the bid was accepted on July 1 for $418,000.
“They’ve done work with IU, Lewis Cass … Taylor University, and have done a lot of work in academics,” said Korus. “They will be able to get the contract to you all (the board) on Friday, and if approved, they can start in 30 days. They will have it done in 70 days.”
Lynn Leininger, the chief financial officer for Whitko, explained that because of the new state law, they can do a debt service funds transfer to the operations fund. This will help offset the loss revenue that was felt by the school during 2020 and is a one-time event.
The renovations and the debt service funds transfer will be voted on during the regular meeting at 5:30 p.m. Monday, July 20 in the Whitko Career Academy lecture room.
