WCS Graduation

As I read through our son's graduation cards, the words celebrate and celebration appeared in many of them. Graduation is certainly a time of celebration, and we saw a good example of that Friday night at the WCS graduation ceremony. I know some will think it was a bit too much, but I thought the behavior of the students was very uplifting.

At a time when there is so much strife and bad news in the world, it was a breath of fresh air to see the spirit of this class come out. Their antics were not in anyway demeaning or disrespectful. It was all good light-hearted fun. My only regret is that when one of the students aimed their silly string at Mr. Anson, he ducked and it went astray. I thought Mr. Anson's response to all that was going on was in very good taste. All the while he was collecting bouncing beach balls, he had a smile on his face.

It should be noted that the initial blast from an air horn came from an adult and not the students.

Of course, the most meaningful moment came when Brady Houck's name was called. The response of the students, and audience, was certainly a great tribute to the character and spirit of this young man and his family. It certainly touched the heart and again showed the spirit of this class. They know what it is to have fun, and they have an awareness of what is really important in life. What a great combination.

For those of us who sat through the football season, we were already aware of this spirit. We saw it in every game. There was something about that team, that even though they were losing on the field, they were still winners. You just wanted to cheer for them. Like this class, the numbers may not always show it, but when it comes to the game of life these kids will survive, and they will be winners.

Good luck to each and everyone of you, and may God bless you all.
