WCS Concerts To Feature Singing, Dancing And Bands

Warsaw Community Schools’ dance and music departments will put on concerts starting Thursday.
The Warsaw Community High School Dance Department will have its spring dance concert at 7 p.m. Thursday at the Performing Arts Center.
They will perform in a variety of styles, including tap, modern, jazz and lyrical, concluding with a special presentation of Jerome Robbins’ original choreography from “West Side Story,” according to a news release from WCS.
Freewill donations will be accepted for the dance department. All donations go to the dance program for the purchase of costumes, shoes, and free dance opportunities for future WCS students.
The WCHS bands will have their annual spring band concert on May 24 at 7 p.m. at the PAC. The concert will feature the Jazz Band, WCHS Wind Ensemble, Concert Band and Combined Bands. The program includes such songs as “Malagueña,” “How to Train Your Dragon” and “Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban.”
The WCHS bands are under the direction of Mark Ziegler and David Knouse.
Freewill donations will be accepted for the band department. All donations go to the WCHS band program.
The WCHS Choir Department’s Spring Pops Concert "Stage and Screen" is May 23 at 7:30 p.m. at the PAC.
Choir Director Josh Hren said all five choirs will perform and will sing songs like “When I Grow Up,” a medley from “Les Miserables,” “Seize The Day” and “You Don’t Own Me.”
He said the May 23 concert is the senior honors concert, so all the seniors that are graduating will be honored.
Freewill donations will be accepted for the choir department. The money will go toward things like choir uniforms and next year’s spring trip.
The WCS Orchestra Department will have its spring concert May 25 at 7 p.m.
Orchestra Director Angela Dieleman said the sixth-grade orchestra, Edgewood and Lakeview orchestras, Obbligato Strings and Philharmonic Orchestra will perform. There are alumni that were invited to come back and perform with the orchestras.
A wide variety of music will be performed, such as “Nights on the Streets of Madrid.”
Seniors will also be honored during the orchestra concert. Dieleman said each senior has chosen a piece of music that will be performed.
Freewill donations will be accepted for the orchestra department. The money will go toward things like maintaining instruments and next year’s spring trip.
