World Compassion Network, a Warsaw-based disaster relief organization, is looking for volunteers and donations to help the community of Sullivan.
Three people were killed in Sullivan County by a EF3 tornado that hit Sullivan Friday, according to the IndyStar.
World Compassion Network had a team go to Sullivan over the weekend and do an assessment. There was a lot of damage on the south side of the town, said Sandy Hatcher, office manager.
WCN has a preliminary plan to have volunteers go down after Easter, she believes April 11-14, and help. When they do disaster relief, WCN works with a local church or missionary-based organization and does whatever that organization needs helps with, whether that’s bringing in supplies, acting as a distribution center or helping in clean-up and clean-out.
WCN has been working in disaster relief for over 20 years.
She said volunteers will have flexibility in when they are able to volunteer since Sullivan is 3-1/2 hours away.
WCN is working with First Christian Church of Sullivan. Hatcher said First Christian Church hasn’t given WCN an indication on how they want WCN to help yet, but Hatcher said she believes it’s help in clean-up and clean-out.
WCN wanted to help in Sullivan because the town is close enough to Warsaw for the organization to respond to and it is WCN’s founder Joe Wilkey’s hometown, so it is close to WCN’s heart, Hatcher said.
Anyone interested in volunteering can email tsnowwcn@gmail.com and anyone interested in donating can go to wcnministries.org.
Hatcher said there are no restrictions to volunteers, but children should be with their parents and, since it is a disaster relief zone, there probably shouldn’t be small children.
She said she hopes anyone that volunteers, as well as the community receiving the help, gets healing. She hopes the families that need help get healing and WCN wants to share the love of Christ.
