WCHS Plans Lip Syncing Contest

Posted
A lip syncing contest sponsored by the Warsaw Community High School drama department will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday at the Performing Arts Center.

“We usually do a variety show every year,” said theater teacher and director Dana McAfee. However, this year, it was decided to change things up, partly due to COVID and partly due to the fact the variety show has been done for 20 years.

Sign-up for students to participate in the lip syncing  has already been cut off, so students can figure out what they want to do. While she said she didn’t set a maximum amount of students, the goal was about 20, and they have 16 who are participating.

“The kids seem to be excited about it,” McAfee said.

There will be at least two rounds, maybe three. During those rounds, there will be an audience vote. There will be an email that audience members can send their vote to, McAfee said. The students who move on to the next round can perform the same song as they did in the previous round or they can perform a different one. At the end of the contest, several awards will be given, including best costume, best lip syncing and best overall presentation.

Students are allowed one song per round, and all songs and costumes have to be school appropriate.

Tickets are $5. This year, there will be a cap of how many tickets are given out, which is 200. McAfee said this is to help in social distancing at the PAC for audience members. People can buy tickets from the box office by calling or going to the box office before the performance. People can also buy tickets the day of the contest. McAfee said the box office will be open during the day.

It is recommended that family members sit together, but friends should sit apart.
