Is it any wonder young girls result to eating disorders when people tell them they are too big?
Girls are beginning this downward spiral at the young age of 5 nowadays. As though it is not bad enough that they are bombarded from all sides by television, magazines, peers, etc., an adult from their own community is the one to tell them they basically shouldn't bother because of their size.
As a "big gal" myself, the only thing I could glean from your letter is that I'm not qualified to be a cheerleader because of my weight. Hmm? Prejudice much?
I feel sad and embarrassed for the varsity coach. Yes, maybe she needs to push her girls a bit more, help them learn to entertain the crowd more, etc. Let's take this on the right way next time. Go to the source. If you're really concerned, go the school and request a meeting. It's a novelty. The coach might have listened and been eager to get some constructive criticism before you broadcasted to the entire community that she's not up to snuff.
I almost forgot. Your own satisfaction and amusement is much more important than the feelings of others. Now are you satisfied that you have crushed the spirits of some young women, and terrified the hearts of young girls considering it in their future?
