Wawasee Track Teams Split With Westview

SYRACUSE ­– Wawasee High School’s boys and girls track and field teams opened their outdoor season Thursday by splitting with Westview.

The Wawasee Lady Warriors, led by senior Jada Parzygnot’s two individual first-place finishes, won nine of 16 events and beat Westview 73-48.

Parzygnot won the pole vault competition (9-0) and the long jump (14-7).

Her long jump victory led a sweep of the top three spots, as teammates Alissa Gill and McKenzie Long finished second and third, respectively.

Other winners for the Lady Warriors were Mariah Hurst (800), Long (1600), Emma Ebright (3200), Aiyana Perales (100 hurdles), McKenzie Smith (300 hurdles), Dylan Konieczny (high jump) and the 4x800 team of Ebright, Bailey Mayhew, Smith and Courtney Cox.

In the boys meet, Wawasee won six of the 16 events and fell 67-54 to Westview.

Senior Isaiah Tipping won two individual events for Wawasee.

He won the shot put with a distance of 48-5, and then won discus with a throw of 112-8.

Other winners for Wawasee’s boys team included Jordan Grindle (100), Jon Konieczny (200), Landon Gause (high jump), and the 4x100 team of Grindle, Jesus Landeros, David Miller and Ramon Lenoir.



Lady Wildcats Open Season With Win

SOUTH WHITLEY – The Whitko Lady Wildcats opened their varsity softball season with a 6-2 win over the visiting Lakeland Lakers.

Whitko, back-to-back regional champions, scored a run in the first inning and five in the fifth en route to the win.

Lakeland scored one run in the fifth inning and another in the sixth.

The Lady Wildcats outhit Lakeland 6-4, and the Lakers were charged with four errors in the field.

Senior Ellie Snep was credited with the pitching win for Whitko.
