Oakwood Cemetery’s water issues continued to be a topic of discussion during the Oakwood Cemetery Board of Regents meeting Thursday.
Sexton Hal Heagy said the main water line that is broken is not going to be turned on this year. Heagy said he is not going to put the money into it until he figures out what is going on. Heagy is going to figure out some sort of water station at the chapel where people can get water.
Heagy was part of a department head meeting Wednesday. He talked with city engineer Aaron Ott and asked Ott if there are any rules about wells on city property. Ott said there was not. Heagy is going to look into putting a well behind the cemetery shop.
The cemetery has a 180-gallon tank and Heagy said he has a feeling the cemetery will need a bigger tank. The cemetery does use a lot for graves.
Ott is going to look into what the cemetery can do as far as water. Heagy is going to look at what the cemetery can do as far as water this year.
In other business, the board heard:
• Cemetery staff has been filling in low spots with dirt.
• Stone work in Cremation Garden #1 has been completed.
• The cemetery’s wood give away has been finished for the year.
• The cemetery has started sodding its winter graves.
