A Warsaw woman is facing felony neglect of a dependant charges for allegedly leaving her minor children home alone for days and telling no one where she went.
Ashley Nicole Moody, 33, of 404 N. Parker St., #14, Warsaw, was booked in the Kosciusko County Jail at 9:38 p.m. Wednesday and faces two Level 6 felony neglect of a dependant charges.
According to the probable cause affidavit filed June 8 in Kosciusko Superior Court I, on May 19 a Kosciusko County Sheriff deputy responded to a welfare check.
Upon arrival at the residence, the officer found two minor children who told police they had been at the home for three days without seeing Moody.
According to court papers, the officer reported trash was found throughout the home, trash cans were overflowing, dirty dishes were piled in the kitchen, the bathroom toilet, sink and tub had black residue; human waste was in the toilet bowl, the shower head was broken and the bedrooms were strewn with clothing and other items.
One of the minor children told police he does not have a bedroom and that he sleeps on the couch, according to the affidavit.
Police then spoke with a resident of a neighboring apartment, who according to court papers, told police Moody leaves the children for days without telling anyone she is leaving or where she is going. The neighbor also told police that the children will sometimes come to his apartment to ask for food and to stay there for awhile, and when he asked them where Moody is, they always say they do not know where she is or when she will be home.
Police then spoke with Moody, who according to the affidavit told police she had been gone for two days at a friend’s house in Pierceton, but she declined to provide further details. Moody did admit that she had not checked on the children during her time away, according to the affidavit.
