A Warsaw woman was arrested this week for intimidation and invasion of privacy after allegedly yelling racial slurs and scaring neighbors in a Warsaw apartment complex.
Janice Sue Miller, 55, of 320 W. Main St., Warsaw, was arrested and booked into the Kosciusko County Jail at 9:42 p.m. Wednesday for intimidation, with a preliminary bond set at $1,500.
Court documents filed Tuesday list the charges against her as invasion of privacy, a Class A misdemeanor; and intimidation, a Class A misdemeanor.
Officers were called to the apartment building where Miller lives because of problems she was causing, court documents state.
At 7:41 a.m. Jan. 25, Miller was in the lobby yelling racial slurs at the other residents. Earlier in the morning, she left derogatory handwritten notes on the public bulletin board and coffee table. She went back to her room only after she was told they were calling police.
A little over an hour later, she was in the hallway cussing and screaming at another apartment resident.
Then at 10:31 a.m., she was again cussing and screaming at residents in the lobby. Over 45 minutes later, she was back in the lobby cussing and screaming at maintenance workers. She was approached by police and told she would be arrested for disorderly conduct if she continued her tirade in front of the other residents.
At 11:59 a.m., an officer met with the property manager and they went over some of the complaints filed by other residents against Miller. The other residents reported being scared of her and worried about what she might do next. They reported she has been up all hours of the evening, banging on doors.
The apartment management has filed for her to be evicted but the legal action takes time, the court documents state.
The Bowen Center also is involved but over the past month Miller appears to be acting out more, quitting her medication and drinking alcohol.
Prosecutor Dan Hampton advised the officer to get Adult Protective Services involved in Miller’s case.
On Saturday, Miller was in the Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Office lobby wanting to speak with an officer about things going on at the apartment complex. She left the lobby prior to officers’ arrival but another apartment resident said she was the victim of a pepper spray incident. That morning, the woman said Miller told her she would “get her.”
