Warsaw P-SS Burgh Earns T-U Athlete Of The Week Honor

Posted
In a week where rain took away most high school sporting events, junior infielder and pitcher Noah Burgh of the Warsaw Tiger baseball team has been named the Times-Union area Athlete of the Week for April 29-May 4.

Like most student-athletes in northern Indiana, Burgh’s week of competition didn’t begin until mid-week due to all the rain in the area. Burgh made the most of his opportunities.

First on Wednesday, he tossed a complete-game, three-hit shutout against Wawasee in  Warsaw’s 3-0 Northern Lakes Conference win. The game was moved to Syracuse that afternoon because the field on the Warsaw campus was unplayable.

Burgh struck out eight Warriors while allowing four walks during a 120-pitch effort. He also had a putout and three runners out on the bases.

In a 7-6 NLC loss at Goshen Friday, shortstop and leadoff hitter Burgh had a pair of singles, was hit by a pitch, stole a base and scored twice. He also turned in a nice defensive play in the game, according to Times-Union correspondent Steve Krah in his account of the game in Saturday’s paper.

With Saturday’s conference game at Elkhart Memorial tied at two in the top of the sixth, Burgh’s two-run single sparked a six-run inning and a 8-3 Warsaw win. Burgh had two hits, scored twice and drove in a pair of run in the victory.
