Trick-or-treating for Warsaw and a number of Kosciusko County towns has moved from tonight to Friday.
And along with the Halloween festivities, First Friday is still on tap for 5 to 9 p.m. Friday downtown Warsaw. G & G Hauling & Excavating, the event sponsor, will have a number of activities for children and adults, and will be collecting nonperishable food items and other goods for local nonprofits.
Trick-or-treating for residents in Warsaw city limits and the town of Winona Lake is rescheduled to 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Friday due to forecasted inclement weather that will cause limited visibility and safety concerns.
The National Weather Service forecasts a high of 44 degrees with 100% chance of rain today, with a low of 26 degrees and a 90% chance of rain and snow before midnight. Snow accumulations up to a half inch are possible, with west winds 15 to 20 mph and 35 mph gusts.
Other towns that have rescheduled trick-or-treat times as of press time are:
• Bourbon, 5 to 7 p.m. Friday.
• Pierceton, 6 to 8 p.m. Friday.
• North Webster, 6 to 8 p.m. Friday.
• Syracuse, 6 to 8 p.m. Friday.
Towns not mentioned had not changed their times as of press time Wednesday night.
The theme for November’s First Friday is “Thanks for Giving.”
For the third year, G & G Hauling and Excavating is sponsoring November’s First Friday and is asking the public to bring a donation to help fill its dump truck. The donations will help local not-for-profit organizations The Beaman Home, The Salvation Army, Combined Community Services, Serenity House, Fellowship Missions, All Things New and Heartline.
G & G’s partners for November’s First Friday include IMI, Lake City Bank, Monteith’s Best One, Kerlin, MacAllister Rentals, Robinson Construction, Allegra Print and Image, Todd Biller, Willie 103.5, WRSW 107.3, Oldies 103.9, Times-Union, Ink Free, Dave Michaels, City of Warsaw and Warsaw Community Development Corp.
During First Friday, families also can participate in activities such as pet rock painting, a large equipment display area, sandboxes with shovels and buckets for little ones along with a coin hunt, crane basketball, a celebrity equipment rodeo (local school principals and more, starting at 6:30 p.m.) and a crossword puzzle to complete for an hourly drawing, according to information provided by Mike Loher, G & G materials coordinator. For the crossword puzzle, participants must visit each not-for-profit and piece of equipment to get the answers to complete the puzzle for a chance to win. There also will be a roller demonstration after the celebrity equipment rodeo is over.
Nashville recording artist Jason Michael Carroll also will perform a free acoustic show at approximately 7:30 p.m. Carroll has performed in Warsaw before, and his songs include “Alyssa Lies,” “Livin’ Our Love Song,” “Where I’m From,” “I Can Sleep When I’m Dead” and more.
