Warsaw Man Charged With DUI After Hitting PolePIERCETON – A 21-year-old Warsaw man is being charged with a DUI after he swerved to miss a deer and struck a utility pole instead.

At 4:34 a.m. Wednesday, officers with the Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Office and Warsaw Police Department responded to a vehicle crash on East Pierceton Road, 900 feet west of South CR 500E, in Pierceton.

Upon arrival, officers found Jacob Isaac Pagan, 21, of 2352 E. CR 600S, Warsaw, and his blue 2012 Chevrolet Malibu smashed into a Kosciusko REMC utility pole.

Pagan told police that he was driving west on Pierceton Road when a deer entered the roadway, so he swerved and crashed into the pole. Pagan also told police he had been drinking that evening.

Field sobriety tests were performed on Pagan, according to the police report, but he refused a chemical test. The vehicle had to be towed from the scene, and Pagan was booked in the Kosciusko County Jail at 6:39 a.m. Wednesday for operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated.

His bond was set at $700. Estimated damaged is between $5,000 and $10,000.
