A Warsaw man was arrested after allegedly taking videos of a child undressing.
Daniel Adam Walters, 42, of 604 E. Fort Wayne St., Warsaw, is charged with two counts of voyeurism, level 6 felonies. He was booked into the Kosciusko County Jail at 3:45 p.m. Friday on a $20,000 preliminary bond.
According to the probable cause affidavit, on Jan. 29, a Warsaw Police Department officer received a report from a child where Walters inappropriately touched them. The child completed a forensic interview at Safe Harbor Child Advocacy Center.
The child said that back in November they felt they were being watched and saw Walters’ phone propped up. The child saw the camera part of the phone, deleted the video and confronted Walters, who allegedly appeared nervous. Walters told the child not to tell anyone about the incident because it sounds and looks bad.
The child said over winter break in December and before Christmas, they found a small square camera with a light. The child asked Walters what it was. Walters said he didn’t know and took the camera from the child and put it in his pocket. The child also said in December, Walters grabbed their thigh. The child told him to stop. When Walters asked why, the child said because it was weird.
On Jan. 30, a WPD detective talked with Walters. He denied there were any cameras and that he grabbed the child’s thigh. Walters did say he didn’t know why the child would lie. Walters confirmed the child brought him something, but denied it was a camera, describing it as a black dongle with a little plug.
A dongle is a small, portable hardware device that plugs into a computer or electronic device to provide additional functionality.
Walters said he previously set up his phone to film reactions from pranks. He said he was not aware he set up his cell phone to video the child undressing. He said he “maybe” remembered a time the child found the camera and brought it to his attention. He said he didn’t recall telling the child not to tell anyone.
The detective learned law enforcement located an image on Walters’ phone of towels placed in front of it to conceal the camera.
