Warsaw Library Board Updated On Visits, Reading Program & More

Posted

The Warsaw Community Public Library had more than 13,000 visits for June, the Board of Trustees heard Monday.
Also among library statistics were that more than 1,000 adults and teens enrolled in the library's summer reading program, with 904 kids signed up.
There were also approximately 12,000 uses of the internet's Wi-Fi in June.
The board also heard that Library Director Heather Barron had participated in workshops regarding a funding reduction.
Libraries are expected to receive less funding due to the state legislature passing a property tax reduction bill.
Barron said the state Department of Local Government Finance put on the workshops. She said information was mainly a rehash of what was already known so far.
"I think there's still a lot to be learned as we go," she said.
Barron also said the Indiana State Library had a meeting with library directors.
She said the state isn't cutting the Libby/OverDrive app patrons may use for audiobooks and ebooks.
Barron said patrons won't be able to use the foreign language educational service Rosetta Stone via INSPIRE going forward, but Mango Languages would still be available.
In other business, the board:
• Heard regarding the library's planned renovation project that Barron had met with architects to wrap up the schematic design of the project.
• Heard the following staff members had marked work anniversaries: Leslie Jeffreys, 16 years; Alisa Bernier, three years; Noni Voth, three years; Jama Weaver, three years; and Erica Bennington, eight years.
• Heard the library is working with DreamOn Studios on several informational videos. Those videos detailing aspects of the library should be published on the library's website and social media in the future, said Barron.
• Heard Peg Burgher is the new president of the Friends of the Library.
• Heard that the installation of the library's new boiler system has started.
• Heard the library was working with Joe's Kids to show that the library is a place that's supportive of kids with special needs.
The board's next meeting is 4 p.m. Aug. 11 at the library.
