Warsaw Library Board Discusses Boiler Replacement

Posted

At the Warsaw Library Board of Trustees meeting Monday, the primary focus was the urgent replacement of the library’s aging boiler system.
A leak was discovered, prompting swift action to avoid disruption during the summer months.
“We are now replacing that boiler at a cost of nearly a quarter million dollars,” said Library Director Heather Barron, noting the work will begin at the end of the month.
Despite the unexpected expense, the board was optimistic.
“The good news is we have an earlier-than-expected arrival date for all the equipment,” Barron said.
In addition to the boiler, ongoing issues with the irrigation system and HVAC were also addressed to the board.
The meeting covered standard approvals of past minutes and financial reports, which included a supplemental funding boost of nearly $90,000 in May.
Business Manager Renee Sweeny reported investments of over $1.4 million at a favorable interest rate.
Other highlights of the meeting included increased circulation, with the library reaching its highest book circulation at 20,537 physical books checked out in May.
“If things start to get more expensive, if the economy takes a downturn, this is where people tend to come,” said Board President Chris Merrill, reflecting on the library's role as a community hub.
The board concluded with the motion and unanimous approval to close the library for Independence Day Weekend, ceasing operations on July 4 and 5.
