Warsaw Community Public Library Board of Trustees approved a repair quote for the library's Otis elevator during a board meeting on Monday, Aug. 10.
Facilities Manager Jim Price said the elevator's processor has been obsolete for about four years.
"So (Otis) is no longer able to get replacement boards for (the processor)," said Price. "If the board would have something fail on it, they basically have to ... send them in for repair, hoping they get fixed and come back. They said they have not had good luck with that, so this is their upgrade path that gets you an additional 10 to 15 years out of the processor."
Price said the elevator is a "workhorse" but that the electronics behind it need updated.
The quote totals $24,899, with the repair itself estimated to take about a day and a half.
Board Member Jill Beehler asked about possibly using funds from the library's capital improvement fund for fixing the elevator. Board President Chris Merrill, Board Treasurer Ben Rice and Business Manager Renee Sweeny said the library has monies available in its operating fund for the repair and wants to save the monies in the capital improvement fund for other work. The capital improvement fund currently has about $83,000 in it.
An update on replacing the library's dry sprinkler system and installing an air conditioning unit in the server room was also provided. The AC unit has been installed and worked properly during a power outage as a result of storms on Sunday, Aug. 9. Bids for the library's dry sprinkler system will not be looked into until October. SRKM Architecture, the firm working with WCPL to pursue sealed bids for the dry sprinkler system, is busy and unable to assist with the project until that time.
The board's next meeting is at 4 p.m. Monday, Sept. 14.
