Warsaw Community Schools To Have Three Music PerformancesThe public will be able to see three different performances next week from the Warsaw Community Schools Music Department.

The Warsaw Community High School Choir Department will put on its “Sound Scape” concert at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Performing Arts Center.?It is free of charge and general admission.

Choir Director Josh Hren said all the songs that will be performed are very descriptive representations of nature and natural wonders.

All choirs - Beginning Women’s, Beginning Men’s, Intermediate Choir, Advanced Women’s and Select Chorale - have a different selection of songs they wil each perform, he said. There will a couple folk songs and spirituals that will be performed. Examples of songs to be performed include “Wade in the Water” and “Danny Boy.”

Tuesday, World’s Finest Chocolate will be sold in the PAC lobby to raise money for a trip to New York City during spring break 2024 for the choir, orchestra and the dance and theater programs.

Hren said he hopes all 80 choir students and attendees get an appreciation of the music that’s being presented and the hard work and energy the students put in to learning the music.

The second concert will be the fall orchestra concert at 7 p.m. Thursday at the PAC. It is free and general admission.

Orchestra Director Angela Dieleman said the sixth-grade orchestras from Lakeview and Edgewood Middle schools, Obbligato Orchestra and Philharmonic Orchestra will perform Thursday. It will be a mix a classical orchestra music and other pieces of music based on folk songs such as “Rhythms of Africa.”

The music provided to the orchestra students was a variety so they have a foundation of learning traditional orchestra music while branching out to different types of music that have been adapted for the orchestra.

Some of the songs will tell a story, she said. One example she gave was the middle school group will play “Dinosaur Dig” and “Dragonslayer.”

She said she hopes the orchestra members and attendees enjoy a variety of music so they understand string instruments can be used for a lot of different expressions.

At 6:30 p.m. Friday, the Marching Band will put on its community performance for its competition show at Fisher Field. It is free of charge. Donations will be taken that will go back into the Marching Band program. Marching Band merchandise will also be sold.

Band Director Mark Ziegler said the Marching Band has been competing since Sept. 10 and has been in four competitions so far, receiving three first places and one second-place designation as of Tuesday.

On Friday, the community performance is to showcase what the band has been working on since band camp in July, he said.

The show is called “Vanished” and is a ghost story. There will characters in the Marching Bands that will be ghosts that will try to capture other members and turn them into ghosts.

“And then we have kinda a little surprise at the end of the show that we haven’t revealed yet because the show is called ‘Vanished,’” he said.

Ziegler said there will be a variety of show selections in the community performance, including “Exit (Music From a Film)” by Radiohead and “The Planets” by Gustav Holst.

He said Friday’s performance is an opportunity to for Marching Band members to perform for their parents and friends. A lot of community members come to the community performance to see the band and see how it’s doing.
