Warsaw Board Of Works Approves Bid For Asbestos Abatement Of Jomac Buildings

Posted

The Board of Works and Safety approved Friday a bid for asbestos abatement work at the Jomac buildings.
City engineer Aaron Ott made his recommendation to the board after taking the bids under review.
At the Aug. 1 Board of Works meeting, two bids were received for the asbestos abatement but both were deemed unresponsive at the Aug. 15 Board of Works meeting so the work had to be rebid. At the Aug. 1 meeting, five bids also were received for the demolition of the Jomac buildings, but that was awarded Aug. 15 to G & G Hauling & Excavating, the lowest bidder at $322,896.
At the Sept. 5 Board of Works meeting, bids for the asbestos abatement the city received were Environmental Management Specialists Inc., $75,685; Environmental Assurance Co. Inc., $100,000; SSI Services LLC, $76,400; and ProTechs Inc., $130,083.57.
On Friday, Ott said after review, all bids received were responsive and responsible contractors. He recommended the board approve the lowest bid from Environment Management Specialists Inc.
Later in the meeting, Mayor Jeff Grose said the mayor’s office has been working with Language Matters to apply for a grant in order to extend multilingual help beyond Warsaw’s city limits.
The city was awarded a $10,000 grant from the Kosciusko County Community Foundation from their Community Funds grant program to fund the expansion of the Multilingual Help Center beyond city limits.
Grose said his office will be working with Language Matters to see how the money can be used effectively.
The board approved accepting the grant.
