SYRACUSE – Walter Roy “Walt” Steffen, 87, Syracuse, passed away at 7:02 p.m. Sept. 7, 2015, at Greencroft Health Care, Goshen.
He was born March 6, 1928, in Elgin, Ill., to Theophile E. and Mabel M. Wewetzer Steffen. On June 4, 1950, in Milford, he married Dorothy M. “Dot” Haab, who preceded him in death Oct. 10, 2014.
He attended Elgin High School in Elgin, Ill. He moved to Milford in 1952 from Elgin, Ill., where he had worked at a watch factory. He retired from Johnson Controls as a tool and die maker after 33 years of service.
He was a member of the Apostolic Christian Church in Milford where he was also a minister for 30 years. He served as volunteer chaplain at Goshen Hospital for many years.
Survivors are: Pat (and spouse Wade) Stoller, South Bend; Shirley Stoller, Paulding, Ohio; Marlene Bokholdt, Downers Grove, Ill.; Kirsti (and spouse Niles) Miller, Syracuse; Caralee Steffen, Goshen; two sons, Richard (and spouse Gwen) Steffen, New Paris; and Timothy (and spouse Marla) Steffen, Goshen; 16 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, five sisters, Louise Steffen, Elgin, Ill.; Helen Steffen, Phoenix, Ariz.; Lenora Steffen, Elgin, Ill., Jeanne (and spouse Richard) Stoller, La Jolla, Calif.; and Gladys (and spouse Don) Kauffman, Bloomington; two brothers, Dale (and spouse Sharon) Steffen, Rancho Santa Fe, Calif.; and Albert (and spouse Shirley) Steffen, Stuart, Fla. He was also preceded in death by his parents, a daughter, Bonnie Steffen, a sister, Rosemary Reckhemmer, two brothers, Raymond and Earl Steffen and two sons-in-law, Mark Stoller and Alexander Bokholdt.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, at the Apostolic Christian Church, 201 N. Higbee St., Milford, with Daron Price and Randy Beer officiating. Burial is in Milford Cemetery.
Calling is from 2 to 8 p.m. Friday at the church fellowship hall.
