Although there's not much mass to a cloud drifting over the southern part of the county recently, it still managed to release precipitation. According to meteorologist Michael Lewis, North Webster, the phenomenon known as virga is streaks or wisps of precipitation falling from a cloud, but evaporating before reaching the ground. Pictured is a weak cumulus cloud with enough lift to create precipitation, but not enough moisture to allow the precipitation to reach the ground. The air below the cloud is cold and dry, so the precipitation is evaporating and being blown to the side. Photo by Gary Nieter.
