NAPPANEE – Velma I. Berger, 90, of Miller’s Merry Manor, Warsaw, and formerly of Nappanee, died at 7:54 p.m. Feb. 24, 2013, in Kosciusko Community Hospital, Warsaw, after an extended illness. She was born June 9, 1922, in Marshall County, to Foster and Ilda Greib Dumph. On Dec. 20, 1941, in Nappanee, she married Delmarr E. Berger, who died June 23, 1994. Living her lifetime in the Nappanee, Bremen and Warsaw area, she was a 1940 graduate of Nappanee High School. She was a homemaker and helped her husband with custodial work at Nappanee United Methodist Church. She was an active member of Nappanee United Methodist Church and had sang in the choir. Surviving are three daughters: Carol (and spouse Ronald) Klotz, Milford; Marlene Hirt, Monticello; and Susan (and spouse Doug) Emerson, Bellvista, Ariz.; a son, Loren Berger, South Bend; nine grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and a half sister, Glenda Sheets, Nappanee. She also was preceded in death by a son, a granddaughter and two sisters. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Nappanee United Methodist Church with the Rev. Jim Davidson officiating. Burial will be in Bremen Cemetery. Calling is from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Thompson-Lengacher & Yoder Funeral Home, Nappanee, and one hour prior to the service Friday at the church. ***** Memorials may be given to the church.
