AKRON – The Tippecanoe Valley School Board heard details Monday at its regular meeting of three grants that have been awarded to the school corporation.
Tippecanoe Valley High School Theatre Department received a grant for $2,500 to fund the production of “Once On This Land,” scheduled for March of this year. The grant was an award from the Frank Levinson Family Foundation Fund, a component fund of the Kosciusko Community Foundation.
Lori Tilden-Geiger, director of marketing, public relations and grants for the school corporation, indicated that the grant monies will increase and improve the sets, props and costumes for the play. She said the drama department is now including students from the middle school in an effort to build interest in the program.
A Kosciusko County REMC Roundup Grant will help ensure students at the middle school and their families maintain the proper nutrition. As the current school year started, teacher Nicki Early recognized that the need for additional food support for the weekends was increased since the number of students participating in the program had doubled.
Students are offered a backpack of food items to use over the weekends.
In asking the school board to prove accepting the grant, Tilden-Geiger said, “Tippecanoe Valley Middle School is grateful for the continued support from the Kosciusko County REMC and other organizations to be able to support additional students and their families who may be food insecure.”
A grant of up to $8,000 from the Indiana Department of Education will help offset costs of Project Lead the Way classes at TVHS for the 2019-20 and 2020-21 schools years. Specifically, the grant dollars will assist with the implementation of the PLTW Computer Science program Cybersecurity courses.
The course includes computational skills, analytical skills and knowledge along with experience with tools, software, lab work, and engineering design.
The actual award letter will be forthcoming, according to TVSC administrators.
