Remembering the Tippecanoe Valley '79 Class A state championship team:
This Friday, TVHS will celebrate and remember the '79 state championship team. Although I will not be able to attend, I take pride in the fact that I was a senior on the team and played for Head Coach Charlie Smith. He assembled and led a school from football infancy to a state championship in six years.
The Valley Football Program was the catalyst in bringing Akron, Mentone, Talma, Burket and Beaver Dam into one community known as Tippecanoe Valley. In the early existence of the school, we were a true team that focused on hard work and dedication to our ultimate goal - a state championship.
Members of our team have excelled in many areas of society, but we all relate our success to the life lessons learned on the field.
This Friday our team will reflect on our accomplishments on and off the field and we will pause and thank our community, school, coaches and parents that gave us a chance to grow up believing that a small school team could realize a dream.
