On Jan. 17, Indiana State Police and Warsaw Police served a search warrant at 311 Collins Drive. Officers entered the residence and found no one inside. They searched a bedroom later determined to be Medina’s and found an ammunition can containing a plastic bag of cocaine weighing more than 28 grams. On top of the cocaine was a Springfield .45-caliber handgun.
In a bedroom later determined to belong to Gonzalez, officers found a lockbox containing $400 and a plastic bag of cocaine weighing less than 1 gram.
Officers spoke with Medina, who admitted he had purchased the gun from a friend for $500 and the friend was going to buy the gun back when he had money. Medina said he uses the handgun to protect the property.
Medina also admitted that Gonzalez and he would travel to Fort Wayne every other week and purchase cocaine and marijuana. He said he and Gonzalez would purchase 3.5 grams of cocaine for $200 per trip. He said they purchased a cutting agent and mixed the cocaine with the cutting agent. He said they would have friends over and sell cocaine to offset the cost of the cocaine purchase.
Gonzalez confirmed to officers that he lived at the residence.
