AKRON - Tippecanoe Valley High School announced that Mill Creek Church of Rochester donated $12,000 to support the school's Boomerang Backpacks program, an initiative that provides weekly meal bags to families in need within the Tippecanoe Valley School Corporation.
This contribution from Mill Creek Church will allow the program to expand its reach and increase food support for local families, according to a news release from TVSC. Currently, Boomerang Backpacks serves 104 families at TVHS, ensuring that students and their households have access to nutritious meals throughout the week.
"We were astonished by the amount collected by Mill Creek Church," said Ashlie Schlemmer, director of communication at TVSC. "This congregation is doing extraordinary things in our community, and we are deeply grateful to be chosen as one of the organizations they support. Their generosity will make a significant difference for families who rely on this program."
The Boomerang Backpacks program plays a critical role in addressing food insecurity by sending home meal bags with students each week, the news release states. With this funding, TVSC can strengthen its commitment to supporting families and fostering student success.
Increasing the number of meals provided ensures no child goes hungry and students return to school nourished and ready to learn. Expanding this program directly impacts health, focus and overall success, creating a stronger, more supportive school environment, the release states.
