Editor, Times-Union: Let me ask a question on the Trump comment about banning Muslims from the U.S.A. Seems his party and others have jumped all over his right to free speech, but I can understand his opponents bashing him for they’re mad they didn’t think of it first nor have the guts to say it anyhow. But my question is this, would we rather have a president who says what’s on his mind and tries to do something about a problem, or one like we have now that will shoot you a lie and do nothing? Let’s remember Jimmy Carter banned Iranians from the U.S. during the Iranian hostage crisis. So why is there a difference now? I have heard the argument that not all Muslims are bad. That may be true, but if I understand their teachings and beliefs correctly, and if they truly follow the prophet Mohammed and the Koran, then if we do not believe and follow him or their law, then we are to be killed where we stand for we are infidels. Now if this is the case, then how are we to know what their intent is when they come across our borders? What’s to keep them from becoming radicalized once they get here? Trump stated he would do this for a time. From my view, Islam/ Muslims dont seem to be very peaceful to me when they want to kill us all and Israel. Can’t be trusted either for Iran has already broke the U.N. treaty it agreed to. We will either come up with a solution to this problem or this problem will get worse till it defeats us.
