Triton School Board Approves Resignation Of Interim Elementary Principal, Hiring Of New Principal

Posted

BOURBON – Triton School Board approved the resignation of the elementary school’s interim principal Monday and hired a new principal, both effective next school year.
The board approved the resignation of Melissa LaShure, the interim principal at Triton Elementary School. LaShure was hired as interim principal in June after Christine Cook retired after 26 years with Triton School Corporation. LaShure previously was the director of curriculum and assessments at Triton Elementary School.
Superintendent Jeremy Riffle said LaShure had taken on the duties of principal and continued the duties of the director of curriculum and assessment job as well. Riffle said LaShure was very open and honest about going back to a position she loved, which was the director of curriculum and assessment.
LaShure’s resignation as interim principal was approved 5-0.
Mason McIntyre was later approved as the new elementary school principal. McIntyre was hired as the administrative assistant at Triton Elementary in June. McIntire previously served as athletic director for the corporation from 2007 to 2021.
Riffle said there were discussions with teachers at every grade level of Triton wanting to keep the leadership team the school currently has in place. Those discussions led the school corporation administration to have a conversation with McIntyre and making sure “he was good with that.”
McIntyre is working on finishing up his administrative degree, so by the time the next school year starts, he will be fully licensed, Riffle said.
McIntyre was approved 4-0 with an abstention from Board member Kevin Boyer since McIntyre is Boyer’s son-in-law.
In other business, the board:
• Approved an additional appropriations resolution and final bond resolution for general obligation bonds for a maximum amount of $2,760,000 for building projects.
• Heard the high school will have its first Project ADAM drill today.
• Heard from Riffle about some of the projects that will be worked on after students are finished with school.
After high school graduation, the big parking lots will be crack sealed and filled. Gym floors will also be sanded down. A new logo will be put on the gym floors. The football light pole will be replaced, which was damaged during April 2025’s tornado. Work will also be done on the tiles at the high school and elementary school.
• Heard American Legion Post 424 will take any worn or tattered American flags for proper disposal.
