BOURBON – Austin Davis was appointed by the Triton School Board Monday to fill the vacant position for the town of Bourbon.
The seat became vacant after Ken Miller gave his resignation Sept. 27 due to him moving out of the district.
Davis said he is 2011 Triton graduate. He is a finance manager at Newmar Corporation, Nappanee, and married to Aubrey. They have four kids.
“This school meant a lot to me when I was attending here, so this was an opportunity to give back and kind of be that voice for the community. And then I also have small kids in the corporation,” he said.
He noted he wanted to keep all students in the corporation first and make the decisions that are right for them that set them up for success.
Before approving the appointment of Davis, the board held a hearing on the proposed contract for Superintendent Jeremy Riffle.
The contract goes from July 1, 2025, to June 30, 2028. During this contract, Riffle will be paid $126,460. He will be granted 12 sick leave days per year, 20 vacation days per school year, as well as the generally recognized legal holidays. The corporation will pay the premiums for a $150,000 term life, long-term disability and hospitalization/major medical insurance coverage, less $1 for each premium.
There were no public comments during the hearing. The school corporation will vote on the contract Monday.
During the meeting, Riffle updated the board on the tentative collective bargaining agreement with the Triton Teachers Association.
Riffle said teachers will receive a $2,000 raise across the board along with a $300 stipend in the two-year contract. The raise will bring up the starting teacher’s pay to $45,000. The board will vote on the agreement Monday.
