BOURBON – Triton Junior-Senior High School has been named a Heart Safe School through Project ADAM.
Project ADAM affiliate programs assist schools and community partners in building cardiac emergency response plans that can be activated when every second matters. Program leaders provide the foundation schools need to strengthen their readiness — offering templates, resources and one‑on‑one consultation to support effective cardiac emergency preparedness and help prevent sudden cardiac death in the school setting, according to the Project ADAM website.
Superintendent Jeremy Riffle told the Triton School Board Monday that over the last five months science teacher Andy Bass has led an emergency response team made up of members of the junior-senior high school staff, along with students from his biomedical science class, to come up with policies, procedures and an action plan for when there is a health emergency in the school building or on campus.
Late last week, the school had a cardiac team drill and was officially certified as a Heart Safe School, according to the school corporation’s Instagram page.
Riffle said the school corporation also hopes to eventually make the elementary school a Heart Safe School as well.
