BOURBON – The Triton football team had four players named to the Indiana Football Coaches Association Class 1A All-State Team.
Quarterback James Snyder was named to the Senior Team, as was offensive lineman Connor Ousley.
Delano Shumpert, who played running back for the Trojans, made the team as a wide receiver. He was the Times-Union Football Player of the Year after racking up 13 offensive touchdowns and 1,055 yards of total offense.
Defensively, Tye Orsund was named to the Senior Team as a defensive back.
“It is amazing to see where these seniors have brought Triton football over the last four years,” said Triton coach Ron Brown. “They have earned all the accolades that they have and will receive. I am proud of each of them and the great young men they are becoming.”
Triton won its first sectional in 10 years this season, and became the first Trojan football team to win nine games in a season.
Warsaw Earns 4th Win In Five Games
PORTAGE – Maddie Ryman scored 11 points to lead the Warsaw girls basketball team to a 56-41 win over Portage Saturday.
The win is Warsaw’s fourth in fifth games.
The Lady Tigers led 11-6 after the first quarter before taking a 23-19 lead into halftime.
They outscored Portage 33-22 in the second half for the double-digit win.
Brielle Harrison, Abby Sanner, and Mackenzie Sokol all scored 10 points for Warsaw (6-4).
The Lady Tigers played eight of their first 10 games on the road.
They’ll begin a six-game home stretch Wednesday against Carroll.
NORTHFIELD – The Manchester girls basketball team picked up a road win Saturday with a 41-39 Three Rivers Conference victory at Class 1A No. 4 Northfield.
The Lady Squires held a 19-14 lead after the first and led 30-27 at halftime.
In a low-scoring third quarter, Northfield (5-2, 2-1 TRC) outscored Manchester 4-3 to cut the Lady Squires’ lead to two.
Manchester held on to its lead in a deadlocked fourth quarter to pull out the win.
“I am so proud of our girls and the way they played tonight,” said Manchester coach Jacob Everett. “We hit shots when we needed to, defended when we needed to, and rebounded well when we needed to.”
Kennedi Fierstos tallied 13 points, four assists and three steals for Manchester, while Eva Bazzoni had 13 points and six rebounds.
Jirni Cripe scored seven points and pulled down six boards for the Lady Squires (4-4, 2-0 TRC).
Manchester will host Huntington North Tuesday, with a JV tipoff at 6 p.m.
Calizo’s Double-Double Powers LCA Past Hamilton
WINONA LAKE – Tori Calizo recorded 20 points and 10 rebounds as the Lakeland Christian girls basketball team earned a 62-23 blowout home win Saturday over Hamilton.
Jessi Calizo scored 14 points and pulled down seven points for LCA.
Lakeland Christian led 15-9 after the first quarter before turning the heat up for a double-digit lead by halftime.
The Lady Cougars broke open the game with a 19-0 third quarter, and led by 31 heading into the fourth.
They scored 14 points in the final quarter to cruise to victory.
Abigail Fishel scored seven points for Lakeland Christian (5-4), while Anna Reimink pulled down six rebounds.
Bussard’s 24 Leads Valley Over Wabash
AKRON – Sophie Bussard scored 24 points and pulled down 17 rebounds to lead the Tippecanoe Valley girls basketball team to a 47-39 home Three Rivers Conference win Saturday over Wabash.
Jillian Walls added nine points for the Lady Vikings (6-3).
Valley will host Triton Wednesday.
Whitko Loses In Overtime
SOUTH WHITLEY – Despite forcing an extra period, the Whitko girls basketball team lost 58-47 Saturday against North Miami.
The Lady Wildcats trailed 18-11 after the first quarter, closed the gap to 25-19 by halftime and were down 35-33 heading into the fourth.
Whitko trailed by three with just seconds left on the clock, and Sarah Hewitt’s three-pointer as time expired tied the score at 46 and sent the game into overtime.
“Sarah hit a huge basket at the end of the game,” said Whitko coach Rick Bragg. “But, we did not make good decisions in the overtime and could not rebound with North Miami throughout the game, which really was the difference.”
Whitko scored just one point in overtime, while North Miami scored 12 for the victory.
Ellie Snepp tallied 17 points and 18 rebounds, while Emalee Duggins added 11 points.
Whitko (3-7) will play at Manchester Friday.
Twombly Scores 24 In LCA Defeat
WINONA LAKE – Landon Twombly scored 24 points, but the Lakeland Christian boys basketball team lost 69-62 Saturday to Hamilton in a home game.
Lakeland Christian trailed after each of the first three quarters.
The Cougars were down 14-12 after the first, 29-23 at halftime, and were down 48-41 heading into the fourth quarter.
Hamilton had three scorers in double figures, including Marko Stanojcic, who led with a game-high 27 points.
Lakeland Christian (1-3) will play Benton HomeSchool Tuesday.

Warriors’ Comeback Bid Falls Short
WAWASEE – Despite outscoring West Noble in the second half, the Wawasee boys basketball team lost 50-48 Saturday in a home game.
The Warriors trailed 23-16 at halftime. They mounted a comeback by outscoring West Noble 15-12 in the third quarter and 17-15 in the fourth.
However, it wasn’t enough as Wawasee lost by just two points.
Aaron Evans scored a game-high 15 points for the Warriors (0-4), while West Noble’s Trevor Franklin had a team-high 13 points.
The Warriors won 45-17 in the JV game and 45-19 in the freshman game.
Caden Welty had 10 points for the Warriors, while Keaton Dukes added nine.
Wawasee will play Thursday at Whitko.

Wildcats Fall At Bellmont
DECATUR – Spencer Sroufe scored 22 points, but the Whitko boys basketball team fell 55-46 Saturday at Bellmont.
Whitko was tied 12-12 with Bellmont after the first, but in the second quarter Bellmont began to stretch its lead.
The Wildcats went into the break down by six before Bellmont stretched the lead to double digits by the end of the third.
Whitko closed the gap by four points, but still lost by nine.
Drake Lewis and Clayton Ebbinghouse each scored 11 points for Whitko (1-2).
The Wildcats will host West Noble Thursday.
Squires Earn Second At Wabash Tournament
WABASH – Delton Moore picked up his 100th career win to lead the Manchester wrestling team to a second place finish at Saturday’s Wabash County Tournament.
Manchester routed Northfield 61-13, before winning 65-18 over Southwood, 55-22 over Southern Wells and 54-24 over Northwestern.
The Squires’ lone defeat came 43-36 to Wabash, which won the tournament.
Moore (182 pounds), Trescott Duffy (170) and Bryce Kamphues (285) each went 5-0 for Manchester.
Manchester had several 4-1 finishes: Ethan McWilliams (106), Dylan Stroud (120), Elijah Burlingame (126) and Ashton Moore (195).
In the JV tournament, Garrett Favia, Peyton Addair and Keaton Love all went 2-0 for Manchester, while Gavin Mize and Jacob Caudill were 1-0.
Manchester will host Tippecanoe Valley Thursday at 6:30 p.m.
Valley Earns 3 Wins At Invite
BUNKER HILL – The Tippecanoe Valley went 3-2 at Saturday’s Maconaquah Invitational.
Valley won 66-16 over North Miami, 64-9 over Whitko and 40-34 over Tipton.
Valley lost 48-36 to Lewis Cass before dropping a match 42-41 to Maconaquah.
Drake Montelongo (113 pounds) and Johnny Gonsalez (195) went 5-0, while Hunter Eherenman (126) went 4-1.
Whitko went 1-4 to place eighth. the Wildcats’ lone win was over North Miami.
Kyle Reed (126) went 5-0 for Whitko.
Warsaw Takes 1st At Own Invite
The Warsaw boys and girls swim teams placed first at their own invitational Saturday.
The girls team had a team score of 668, while the boys team had a score of 556.
Manchester finished seventh in the girls meet (111.5 points) and seventh in the boys meet (119 points).
On the girls side, the Lady Tigers’ 200 medley relay team of Leah Reinholt, Delaney Wihebrink, Taylor Gunter and Olivia Herman won in 2:00.6.
Wihebrink won the 200 individual medley in 2:20.37, while Gracie Willig swam the 500 freestyle in 5:55:82.
Warsaw’s 200 freestyle relay team of Herman, Gunter, Lillian Boston and Wihebrink won in 1:48.36.
Manchester’s Halle Briner won the 100 butterfly in 1:01:89.
On the boys side, Warsaw’s Zach Lalonde, Grant Knight, Nathan Taylor and Alex Cook placed first in the 200 medley relay in 1:42.53.
Knight won the 200 individual medley in 2:05.79 and the 100 breaststroke in 58.97, while Cook won the 50 freestyle in 22.69 and 100 freestyle in 50.55.
Lalonde won the 100 backstroke in 59.12.
The Tigers’ 200 freestyle relay foursome of Knight, Michael Ray, Nick Bazzoni and Cook won in 1:32.09.
Warsaw’s 400 freestyle relay team of Ray, Lalonde, Taylor and Bazzoni won in 3:36.49.
Valley Swimmers Place 5th At Relays
PLYMOUTH – The Tippecanoe Valley coed swimming team placed fifth at Saturday’s Pilgrim Relays.
Valley totaled 64 points. Culver Academies placed first with 206 points.
Wawasee JV Grapplers Excel At Concord Invite
DUNLAP – The Wawasee JV wrestling team had multiple wrestlers take first at Saturday’s Concord Invite.
Elliot Tinsley, Dominick Blair and Austin Lajoice all took first for the Warriors.
Wawasee’s Josh Matney, David Miller, Quintin Spitzmacher and Evan Gregory earned second-place finishes, while Alec Wortinger and Chad Robison placed third.
Warsaw had four wrestlers place. Josh Pelfrey and Wyatt Klinger placed second, while Dominic Albano and Chris McAfoose placed fourth.
